  • Scotty, I have a 2002 mazda protege LX 2.0l that has 161,000 miles. Ive only had to replace the radiator, blower motor and did complete brake job all on my own. Ive owned it for the last 3 years with minimal maintenance besides a little rust.  The only issues it has are bluish white smoke on start up for a about a minute.  Ive confirmed it wasnt coolant. If I immediately shift into reverse when I first start it, it doesnt smoke at all. A friend thought it may be oil pooling on the engine and possible valve stem seals or piston rings.  Any thoughts? Thanks!

It just means your engine is worn out but Scotty said he's seen people drive them years that way without any major issues. Just be easy on it and keep up with the maintenance.
