My 1961 c10 has a grinding noise when the distributor turns when accelerating. It freaks me out. It only does it when it starts to accelerate and quiets down at higher rpms.
You need a new distributor.
I have a video of the noise and you can only really hear it around the end I checked the distributor and the gears are fine and I hear the noise around the middle to bottom of the engine. Here is the video. I already have the rod bearing ready to order
