What’s more reliable VW Golf GTI 2.0 L 265 bhp OR BMW M340i 3.0 L 369 BHP??
I know the BMW has a less stressed engine but also has X drive and 48 volt mild hybrid technology.

You did not mention what model year(s) but regardless neither one is going to be reliable. The Volkswagen will probably cost less to repair when it breaks.
