My head gasket is blown. I first saw my engine light come on, and I brought it back to the Toyota dealership and they said that there’s nothing wrong and they reset the panel, the second time I went to the Toyota dealership they told me it was a software flaw And they fixed it. I came to dealership they now tell me my head gasket is blown and I need to repair it. The engine works just fine. It just rattles for about five seconds when I started up. It’s been sitting all day at work or when I come home in the morning . Is there a solution I can use the oil that’s gonna help seal it up otherwise I’m stuck with $6200 bill.
The dealer is the worst place to take a car for anything but warranty repairs or recalls. Service writers are paid on commission and they frequently engage in upselling - in other words, ripping you off. (You did not mention make, model, year, or mileage but presumably it is out of warranty.) The rattling you are hearing is probably either from the timing chain or the VVT system.
Are you losing coolant? White smoke out the exhaust? Oil in the coolant or vice versa?
First thing you need to do is get a second opinion from a good independent mechanic. (Not chain shops like Pep Boys, Firestone, etc.).
You also need to realize there is no magic in a bottle or can that is going to fix a mechanical problem like a blown head gasket if you do actually have that problem. As a last-ditch effort if it is not feasible to have a proper repair done and the only other option is the junkyard you can try a "sealer" product which may provide temporary relief. Scotty recommends the Bars Leaks product in the silver bottle.
Be aware though that such products may work only for a short time or may not work at all. They may also cause more damage like plugging up your cooling system.
Always post your vehicle info please. We didn't show it to you in the instructions for nothing.
