Would using headlight sealer protect the taillights as it does the headlight?

Unless you get the actual "shields" most of the coatings you will find will be as fake as the Facebook ads for ceramic coatings.

I just leave them alone. They don’t face any oncoming airflow & debris. Not unless you drive like the transporter.
Unless they face harsh sunlight when parked, they won’t fade quickly either.
