Hello. I'm looking to buy a new car and really like the Mazda 3 hatch, especially the Premium trim since it has a 6-speed manual, and isn't turbocharged or AWD. Problem for me is this trim doesn't have a heated steering wheel option, which is near top of my list my list for next car purchase (in winter all I really need is a heated seat and something to warm my fingers - not gloves!).
Can the OEM heated steering wheel be installed after purchase? I know modern steering columns are complicated and have explosives, or whatever, for airbag deployment, so I assume no. But I still have to ask because the 2021 3 has a heated steering wheel in other trims. And in other markets (Canada for example), it has HSW in the same trim I want. So maybe the steering column is already wired for it? If not, how big a job is it?
Thanks.
It can be a big job to do because you would have to go through all the wiring and make sure the battery gives enough power to the heated steering wheel. This also includes the switch to turn it on and off.
I figured. Thanks.
You’re best talking to a Mazda dealer about this, before you sign anything.
It may cause issues with your factory warranty (especially if done aftermarket).
