I have a lexus gs430. I been having a problem with heating and cooling system. Heater has not been working and a/c was barely blowing cold air. I changed engine compartment air filter and the one behind the glove box. Seems to push air a little better but not as cold compared to other vehicles. I tried recharging, but would not take. The needle on gauge pointed to check system. When switching to heater or front defroster the air blows but no heat. Can you tell me what might be the problem and average cost on parts & labor. Thank you

It's not clear why you were messing around with refrigerant especially if the main issue is not enough airflow from the blower and not enough heat. What do you mean "the needle on the gauge pointed to check system"? What kind of gauge are you using? I've never seen a manifold gauge set with those kind of markings. What were your actual high and low side system pressures?
These are two separate systems. Don't mess with your air conditioner, it doesn't sound like you have any knowledge of how they work, and they can be extremely dangerous. Take it to a professional for that.
The heater is something you can fix. Look in your coolant reservoir tank. If it's low, add some there and check the radiator. If it's low there as well, fill it up, raise the front end above the dashboard on a ramp or hill, run the engine with heat on max. Slowly add coolant as you see bubbles come out, until they stop. Return the cap to the radiator. You did not state your car's year. Your car shouldn't be losing coolant, if you have an older car, replace the radiator cap.
If you used a can or refrigerant from an auto parts store, it can really cause trouble the the AC system.
If that's what he did I hope he didn't use a can with "sealer" goop in it. That would likely just cause more problems.
