Hello Scotty, I have a 2003 Ford Crown Victoria Police Interceptor with 296,000. While driving or idling, my engine will completely die but turn itself back on. The rpm’s will drop to 0 but the car will somehow start right back up without the starter engaging. During this, I wouldn’t attempt to turn the car over. If it doesn’t turn back on by itself, I will pull over and attempt to crack it on but it would not start unless I disconnect the battery(only sometimes works) or let the car sit for more than 10 minutes.
Sounds like a computer failure to me disconnecting the battery merely resets the computer.
That would be the PCM correct?
Yes. Though I'd also investigate the possibility of a failing fuel pump or clogged fuel filter.
I just replaced the fuel pump and filter and I still experience the same problem.
