You don't have to buy used; there are many circumstances in which new is a better choice especially in this market. If you can afford a new car and you want to buy something that will last and you plan on keeping it for a long time then consider a brand new Toyota or Honda. For example you can get a brand new base Corolla for $21k ish msrp. But if you have to buy used then the above choice is not good at all. If you can state your budget we can give tailored suggestions.
