I have a 99 ford expadition with 5.4 180k it's AWD. It has a pending code for misfire on #7 cyilinder
I feel like its the coil it had a few replaced when I bought it the I had issues on another cylinder. So I had all of them replaced a year ago and now it's doing it again on #7 so I'm guessing the coil again.
Do you know what could be causing it to go through coils are there any known issues?
This thing is other wise pristine and id loke to keep it on the road

Also has a shudder or hammering sound when it goes in to overdrive
This seems to be made worse by the miss.
Not shur how or if there related but if say other than the worsening of the shift issues probably not. I don't have a scanner that reads the trans.
a bad plug can make coils fail
True! Also using cheap Chinese coils can do that too.. I’ve had them go out after 10,000 miles. Learnt my lesson after that..
I'm not shure what brand my machanic used but I belive it was AutoZone gold or somthing like it

Try your plugs first. May also be a bad connector to that particular coil. So have some use a multimeter to check power and signal at #7 coil
Was indeed the coil Also had to repair one of the plug port with a helicoil.
I'm no longer able to do my own work so I have to rely on good tips and trying to find a good macanic
This guy seemed to do a good job but didn't save the plugs for me to look at and couldent remeber what cylinder he put the helicoil in.
I wish there were a reliable resource to look up a reputible macanic
