Hey Scotty, my moms 2011 Subaru Outback with 175000 miles and automatic transmission had a problem last year where the climate controls would not change between different settings such as defroster only, defroster and foot vents and for vents and dash vents. It was stuck in dash and foot vents so we had no defroster. We got it fixed but we have no idea what happened

Either the switch is bad or the blend door actuator is stuck.
If the switch is good (If you switch between different mods, it shows the change on it), whack the dash to release the the stuck door actuator. Pray it works this way, otherwise you have to open the dash which is an expensive job.
