Hey Scotty do you think I should buy a 2007 Chevrolet silverado 1500 with the 5.3L V8 or settle on a Toyota tundra instead?

"Settle on a Tundra." Good one.

I'd get the Tundra. The Silverado may look better, but underneath that skin....there be monsters.

You must be new to Scotty Kilmer. He will invariably say that GM sucks, Chevy 1/2t pickups are garbage, and to buy the Toyota. And he has a point. A Tundra is more likely to be reliable and last longer.

I think 2007 is before the GM AFM and 8-speed nonsense, so the powertrain is probably decent. The Silverado bodywork will feel cheaper, and not last as long, but they are more affordable trucks.  If you just need a cheap, temporary, beat-around truck, and you look after it,  then I think you can still get good value from one. And they just look better.

2007 marks the beginning of the 2nd Gen Silverado (2007-2014) and is when they offered Active Fuel Management on all their V8’s except for the 4.8L V8. So I would pass on that truck. 2006 was the last model year for the 5.3L V8 in the Silverado before cylinder deactivation.

thank you for the clarification @daywalker. Henny should pass on this truck.

If you can afford the Tundra it is the way to go.

Hi Scotty kilmer I was wondering what your thoughts are on the 2007 chevrolet silverado k1500 with the 5.3L V8 engine and your thought on the 2007 Toyota tundra with the 5.7L V8 engine. What truck do you think is better?

Tundra all day long.

Tundra.  Can't imagine how many rattles an '07 Silverado already has going on, and that's not even getting into the engine (which, as already mentioned, has the AFM system and has had it for 14 years now).  Yikes.

And looks are in the eye of the beholder. The Tundras are perfectly good-looking trucks.

The tundra because it is better overall, more reliable, and will have very annoying resale value when it gets to be 20 years old and people will still pay you top dollar for it in a couple of years. It just is a win-win truck.
