The heater problem is probably because of a stuck blend door.  The loss of power could be many things;  MAF and MAP sensor, dirty air filter, dirty fuel filter, old injectors and spark plugs, clogged egr and pcv valve, etc.  It's 12 years old, when were these maintenance items attended to?

The heat is blend door actuator. In a Ford, they're buried deep in the dash. The part isn't expensive, but the labor to replace it is.  Several years ago, we had the blend door actuator replaced in our company's Expedition and the bill was just under $400. Glad I wasn't paying for it. The power issue could be lot's of things @Doc had already mentioned.
