Ok so i have a 2016 trd offroad m/t with about 100k miles. My issue is when driving along at hwy speed i find that sometimes when easing off the throttle it get this short but terrible sounding grinding noise. Its very brief but seems to be happening more and more lately. Any ideas? Any experienced advice would be greatly appreciated!
Grinding on deceleration could be a number of places in the drive train, but the first place I'd check is the u-joints. IF they are OK, then I'd change the fluids in the tranny, differentials and transfer case. and check for metal particles in the old fluid.
@glen_stet
Have recently changed all said fluids and greased my ujoints that show no signs of failure.
Transfer case...or manual transmission...internal failure
Ujoints are a clunking sound going from a standstill to in gear.
@heyinway
The sound i discribe is likely not explained well. When it does happen it is a very brief sound and doesn't always happen. When i changed the transfer case and m/t fluid recently for the second time throughout ownership and the fluids looked just fine.
