09 Silverado with the v6. It has 150k miles. I can't find any major problems listed online from other folks. Do you have any ideas, suggestions or warnings about it? Thanks
V6? Are you sure you need a truck?
Older GM products are always a crap shoot. But the 2009 Silverado was one of their better efforts. If the price is right and it passes a mechanic inspection, might be ok.
The V6 from what I know is an ok motor, though again, it needs a proper pre-purchase inspection.
By the way, in about 5 minutes, you’re gonna get a bunch of responses saying you should buy a Toyota instead. And they’re right. But old Toyota pickup prices are really astronomical right now. Even though Toyotas are better, the truck you’re looking at may very well be a better buy. Just don’t overpay.
That generation was designed by pre-bailout GM, so it wasn't as big of an overpriced pile of junk as the modern Silverados are. My younger brother has an 2006 Silverado with the same engine as you're looking at, and he's got close to 200k on it. The back bumper is half rusted off, but it's still rolling down the road. Last I talked to him, his air still works, but he was a naughty boy and didn't properly evacuate and recharge the system after he replaced what was leaking.
I purchased a brand new 2011 Silverado V6 regular cab back in the day. Was driving it home and went over some rail road tracks. Immediately, with 48 miles on the odometer, the check engine light came on. I took it back to the dealer and found out that one of the rubber grommets for the intake was not tightened correctly at the factory. It was sucked up into the manifold and the ONLY reason I didn't lose the motor was because there is a small plastic divider pin in the intake that the grommet got stuck on and the engine tech was able to dig it out. Otherwise, it would have sucked it straight into the motor.
Maybe they weren't making them as crappy as they are now, but trust me.....they were far from well built.
I would not buy any GM made 1/2 ton truck made after 2006 because of the AFM feature.
the 4.3L V6 wouldn't have AFM.
It's a good engine, but a bit anemic for a full-size pickup if you ask me.
