04 forester 2.5X automatic with 155k. Just went for NYS inspection. Failed because mechanic could not get a reading/connection via the OBDll port. Said he’d never had this happen. I checked all fuses are good (Subaru gives no info on power to the ECM anyway.) Does that get powered thru ignition switch? How do I diagnose this problem? Any ideas? I’m in the twighlight zone here in NY.
1. Check your 21-year-old wiring for faults, particularly grounds and power. (There are two grounds to the OBD2 port and both need to work for most state equipment.)
