Hi scotty Kilmer I'm trying to find a first car for high school. What do you think of a 1992 Pontiac transport or a 1995 Buick road master wagon. both cars are pretty ugly but my friend has both for sale and he said he'd give me a good deal if I buy one or both of the cars. He also said both cars will be a collectable because the Transport was GM's first mini van. and the Road Master because GM discontinue it and brought it back in 1995. What do you think.
Are you handy with tools? You're talking about vehicles around 30 years old. Lots of potential problem areas. Better have a mechanic look at them.
I doubt either will be collectible in this lifetime. However there is interest these days in old full-size V8 station wagons. The TransSport is a pretty garbage vehicle overall but it was available with the 3.8 V6 engine which is a very good engine if so equipped.
Collectible? Is this guy really a friend?
I deal in collector cars.
The last time someone came in asking me to track down either of those was NEVER. They are not collectable vehicles. That I can say for sure.
As old as those cars are, I would pass and go newer. Especially for something you're going to be driving every day.
Of the two, I'd go with the Roadmaster. You can haul a ton of stuff in it and sleep in in it if you need to.
Parts are still available and you'll be surrounded by 5000 pounds of steel in it. Sure, you'll have to fix things but check this site, there are dozens of people with way newer vehicles that are having problems.
Change the oil, coolant, and check the brakes and tranny and you'll be fine.
Thanks to all
