High pitch noise at idle

Hi Scotty.  My 2015 corolla is making a high pitched noise at idle (and likely when driving, although I can't hear it then).  Its very much like a constant squeaking, not super loud but noticeable.  I've been told my water pump is leaking (although it does seem to be losing fluid) and that my drive belt is a bit dry - could these be causing that noise?  Is there anything serious / urgent that could cause it?  I've just passed my one year warrant on the car so I assume not. thank you!

You'll want to check your belt first as they are usually the culprits. You say it is dry. Can you see any dry rot or cracking in the rubber? If so, it needs replacement. Not a big job and you can do it yourself if you are somewhat handy.

If the belt is ok, it could be a pulley making noise. With the engine running and the car parked, open the hood and see if you can see any of the pulleys wobbling a little bit. If so, turn off the engine, tighten it up, refire it and see if it persists.

If it does, you can disconnect your accessory belt to see if something being driven by that is causing the problem. If the belt is off and the noise stops, you know what components you need to check next.

It is a process. I believe if you Google search "Scotty Kilmer Engine Noises" you can find some excellent videos on this. Best of luck to you!
