Honda Accord 2012 blew up

Hello,

I have a 2012 Honda Accord 2.4l automatic. I was just driving and while accelerating something blew up. My engine was still running but there were no gears so my initial thought was that transmission blew up, however i was still able to put it into park and neutral. I know for fact that coolant and oil fully leaked out, any ideas what could've went wrong and what the problem is?

Thank you for your help.

Well, hopefully you turned it off before it seized up on it’s own. If it was still running but not moving then it’s likely you lost flywheel connection, torque converter , transmission or the cv axles. But none of those would explain loss of coolant or oil. I would suggest putting a pan underneath and adding some oil back in. See if it leaks out immediately, inspect where it’s coming from for damage. If it doesn’t leak out, add in about 3 1/2 more quarts and see if the engine will start. Don’t run it more than 30-45 seconds without coolant. If you get that far add coolant, again looking for leaks and damage. Let us know.

Yeah i didn't realize the engine didn't die and when i stepped then i saw i had to turn it off...it ran for maybe about 40 secs after the boom and before i turned it off it was idling smoothly. You think it is not the transmission since I was able to put it in park and neutral? But i lost gears immediately.

It could be, but generally you don’t lose oil and coolant when they go bad. The fact you lost both tells me you have significant damage somewhere. Need to isolate that first.

Okay. Thank you for your help. I hope it's nothing too bad and maybe easier to fix. Hopefully not too expensive too.

Some update: so my engine needs replacement, it blew up a whole in the engine and there is no way fixing it...

Time for a new car..
