Hello Scotty and everyone I just wanted to have an advice from u guys that I want to buy an accord 2012 but a friend of mine was telling me that all the accords have manufacturing engine defect like Camry and accords are notorious for burning oil is it true or is it a great vehicle. Pls suggest me as it is going to be my first car and I want u guys to help me out to make a correct decision. Thank u all
Honda makes great engines, especially the naturally aspirated ones.
The Honda Accord oil burning consumption for the 8th Gen (model years 2008-2012) falls into 2 camps: not all vehicles experienced it, and it’s not clear just how widespread the issue was.
- 2008-2012 with 2.4L I4 engines
- 2008-2012 with 3.5L V6 (with VCM)
Note, VCM (Honda’s cylinder deactivation system) only comes on the 3.5L V6 with the automatic transmission, but the one with manual transmission did not have it. Which engine and transmission combo are you looking at? 2012 3.5L V6 with manual might be the best bet, but that was only offered on the coupe.
Model years 2008-2010 seemed to be the worst of it, and best to avoid those years.
