hi Scotty,
I have a 2006 Honda accord needs about $1800 worth of work has 285,000 miles on it is it worth putting the money in on that car that many miles? I just bought $700 worth of tires for it and new headlights So I was thinking maybe it would be better to just sell it for what I got into it what do you think
I had a bad experience recently at a toyota stealership where I was quoted needing 8k worth of "urgent" repairs for a 2003 corolla. I actually mean to make a thread about it soon to warn others. Some problems like a slipping transmission or worn struts can be lived with for awhile depending on how your daily commute is. The worst problem you can have on that car is maybe worn piston rings to the point your acceleration is affected. Everyone drives like a maniac nowadays, it feels like I am living in some kind of dystopian novel, you really need the get up and go sometimes to avoid accidents almost.
What exactly is the breakup of the $1800 worth of work?
If I were you, I would put it on craigslist private party and see what you get offered
I personally would be happy with 1800+700+some more= $3000+, and if less, I'd drive it into the ground as you have evidently maintained it and known the condition of it since you got half a million miles on it.
Its crazy what people offer for cars these days. Similar examples to yours go on my craigslist with 200k+ miles for $2700.
Depends case by case.
Clarification, is your transmission automatic? If so, has it been replaced or is it original?
I'd probably sell it.
