Hello,

I am currently looking into Honda Civic 2012+ and was wondering which engine specifically was Scotty Kilmer talking about? I wonder if USA had different options compared to EU?

Thanks in advance =)

2012 and 2013 are the best because they have the 1.8 liter R18 engine with a traditional 5 speed automatic and they’re absolutely bulletproof. I own a 2013 Civic LX and even somebody as abusive as me can’t kill this durable little car. The 2014 and 2015 have the CVT transmission problems. The 2016+ have oil dilution problems with their 1.5 liter turbocharged engines, but no issues with their CVT’s, so if you want a 2016+, go for the base model LX, sport model or the EX since they have regular 2 liter non turbocharged engines. Stay away from the 2016+ EX-T, EXL and SI. Now the 2012-2015 Civic SI has a 2.4 liter Vtec engine which is a very good engine and they come with a 6 speed manual transmission. You can get other trim levels with a manual transmission but I think for 2014 and up, only the base models, sport mode and the SI come with a manual. So these would be the best options :

-2012/2013 Civic : any model is great

-2014/2015 : only get either a base model with a manual transmission or the SI
-2016+ : only get the base model, sport or EX model. Avoid the EX-T, EXL and SI trim levels. Make sure the engine is the 2.0, not the 1.5 turbo

Anything before 2013 is good. 2014+ they started using CVTs, then in the 10th gen 2016+, some had oil/gas dilution problems.

Avoid Honda models with CVT transmission and turbo engines.

pre 2014 were best because no cvt. pretty much any model year is good if you're buying with manual.

I drive 2010 accord, very reliable and its automatic.
