Hey Scotty I have 2012 Honda civic coupe. The skid plate came off and was dragging alone. Went to a mechanic he fixed it using zip ties for 20 bucks saying its rusted and the bolts came off. Do you think it should be good like that or should I get a brand new skid plate and bolt it on? I live in Guelph, Canada.

I just zipped tied a wire harness since the rivet broke. It worked, but I think it is a case by case basis on whether zip ties are a good solution or not.

If it’s chewed out by rust, and you need that underbody protection, I’d get another (new/used) plate installed.

Let’s face it, the zip ties are only gonna last for so long before either they start breaking or the rust gets to the rest of the metallic plate & then you’re back to square one.

And don't forget to spray well with undercoat after installed ; )
Inspect and do same for everything underneath too while at it (undercoat spray).

Correct, it’s a matter of when, not if, when it comes to rust.

Sounds like that thing nearly disintegrated. Get a new one and yes it serves a function. Honda being the cheapskate they are wouldn't waste their money on something that doesn't do anything.
