Hey Scotty, I really appreciate your knowledge and want to learn more. I bought a 1996 honda civic lx with a non vtec engine 125,000 miles for $1,500. I don't know the cars history but I've been planning on changing the coolant and transmission fluid. How do I go on about changing the transmission fluid? Take all of it out or take some out and put a mix of new and old fluid? As for the coolant should I change the water pump as well or just flush the coolant? Thanks in advance! (I did an oil change when I got the car now has 127k).
IIRC, that generation civic uses a timing belt. Examine it. If it is beginning to crack, change it out. If not, and you can verify it has been changed out, leave it be.
And if you are doing the timing belt, might as well do the water pump too, since you taking the area apart anyway.
