Hey everyone,

I remember Scotty saying in one of his videos on fixing a civic that wouldn’t start that the aftermarket Chinese distributors are just fine. Which ones have you guys used and found to be okay? For reference - 99 Civic

thanks

Do you have an opinion on the Wai Global ones sold on Rockauto/Oreilly’s?

Scotty does not generally return to topics he has already answered.  Perhaps someone else here has experience with that brand.

For what it's worth, Scotty indicates a preference for Taiwan as the country of origin. WAI Global's factory is located in Shanghai, China.

@chucktobias Thanks. I've also looked into replacing the coil and icm with NGK and Hitachi (or any other good ones?) units in the original distributor to keep the oem crank/cam sensors.

There's no need to replace parts unless they test as being bad. OEM is best for coils but NGK or Hitachi should be fine as long as they are from trustworthy sources. (There are a lot of counterfeit parts around.)

@chucktobias Sorry I wasn't clear enough, I mean whichever tests to be bad I'd replace...however I thought it wouldn't be a bad idea to keep both in hand as the civic has a good number of miles on it. About counterfeits...yeah I've seen the same Hitachi ICM on rockauto and amazon, both are priced similarly but would guess the amazon one is likely a counterfeit. I've also found a tec coil from JPHUSA, but oem ICMs are prohibitively expensive (+$300).

Yeah I've had good luck with those. Most of the ones I used came from Taiwan so they are Chinese technically but not mainland China. Check out the a premium distributors on Amazon. That's the last one I bought and it worked fine

@scottykilmer Thanks for the reply Scotty. Do you have an opinion on the Wai Global ones sold on Rockauto/Oreilly’s?
