Should I use only OEM transmission fluid in my Honda?

Not sure of Scotty’s position, but wondering if he would concur about Honda AT’s REQUIRING DW-1.

I believe it is essential because of differences in 2 or 3 shaft system & also because of clutch pack material differences in Hondas vs normal ATs.
Loook forward to your input, as I am currently battling an oil change place that convinced me that a non OEM multi vehicle fluid was fine.

For Honda conventional ATs (NOT CVTs), stick to OEM FLUID.

I am dealing very likely failure due party to Non OEM fluid

How many miles have you driven with the non OEM fluid? Have you tried doing a drain(s) and fill(s) with OEM fluid?

Did about 600 miles before collapse ( & check trani warning & DTC(s) .came on, etc) & trani shop put in 2 X D&F when they repaired solenoid (but I just saw a fluid charge on bill). Then when I slowly realized their change almost totally repaired my system, 1000 miles later, I also did 2X D&F.
That all helped, but there was a lot of sludge both times, so it’s having a hard time returning to absolute normal. Oil change placed would kick me down the road at various times when I would ask what the heck was going on.
I finally brought to them that I wanted a repair & the manager basically gaslighted me. No awareness that Honda train’s are completely different

Yeah, that would infuriate me to no end.

Thanks ITWT. Totally infuriating GANGSTAS.
Just researched that oil change place/Exoress Care is a chain owned by Valvoline. Corporate GANGSTERS-in this case

OEM. You only change it once in a blue moon, so might as well go for the hood stuff.

Thank you. In sad retrospect I 100% AGREE

Honda transmissions are very particular when it comes to transmission fluid so use the exact oem stated in the owners manual. It's not worth buying a different brand or anything then facing issues.

Thanks so much. I am dealing very likely failure due party to Non OEM fluid change place.
I know some specifics, mechanically of Honda differences, but more details would be excellent to know.
I know clutch material as well as the greater fluid needs because of more shats as a couple of reason s for OEM, but if you have extra details, please, pray tell, feel free to share.
Thanks so much, PJTOURING

Scotty always says Honda is very particular about their fluids. Always use OEM Honda with most fluids; one of if not the only exception being engine oil.

Absolutely. I now know this. now. Took a while to absolutely confirm. Mostly because alternate oil change shops (& fluid manufacturers) use Magnuson-Moss law as proof that warranty won’t be void, (& other deceptive language), .tho product may destroy your non-warranty Trani.
Manager basically gaslights most of my real objections, even tho design differences in Honda trani should be enough to see 1 size fits all atf should not work.
Very Maddening.
Thanks for your help
