Honda Fit/Jazz engines!

Which engine is the most reliable the standard i-Vtec in the mk2 or the newer Earth Dreams and is there a difference?

The Earth Dreams engines have thedirect injection problem - oil dilution. I vote for the earlier engines.

I believe that Scotty has noted this problem in several videos.

Thank you I will check that out on Scotty's channel YouTube!

The older ones have better potential for longevity IMHO. The newer EarthDreams may last, if you are willing to go above and beyond regular maintenance intervals.

Hi Kaizen, thanks for your feedback, much appreciated.
Do the valves/tappets need to be adjusted manually on the earlier IVTEC Engines?

Generally Honda has recommended valve adjustments for most of their engines for years. Here's an older video by 'Eric the Car Guy' where he mentions a few engine models within the first minute or 2 . note it's a decades old video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RDrw42_KuZY

Thanks for the info Hixster, it's similar to the old Duratec engine on my old Ford.
Turn the engine until the piston hits Top Dead Centre then adjust valve accordingly to the manual and check the clearance using a feeler gauge.
Do you know if there is a manual for the jazz/fit?
Used to buy Haynes manual here in the UK 🇬🇧

Your original question wasn't vehicle specific so IDK. Check the Haynes website for your year/model https://haynes.com/en-gb/
