My inspection report after oil change said I need new struts and timing chain. The van runs great, but we are talking $4000 plus for this work (133000 miles).
I don't have this kind of money and since I live in my van.....at 75 I'm worried about a breakdown.
Who said you needed that work? Was it a dealership? Chain shop?
Does the van bounce around badly on bumps, or is there fluid leaking out of them? If not then you don't need new struts.
Is it a timing chain or a timing belt? If it's a timing belt at that mileage it should be changed along with the tensioner and water pump assuming it's never been changed before. Honda V6 engines use timing belts. You didn't state the year of your Odyssey but spot-checking 2005, 2010, and 2015 models they all have 3.5 liter V6 engines with timing belts.
That's an interference engine, so if the timing belt breaks it will destroy the engine and as I said it is currently overdue for replacement if original. I would shop around for a better price on replacement, preferably at an independent mechanic - not a dealer or chain shop. Leave the struts for later if the van is not dangerously bouncing around on the road.
cars need upkeep, same as a house

What year? 4 cylinder or 6 cylinder?
