Good morning Mr scotty.
I enjoyed very much your videos, i dont want to miss this apportunity to thank you for big efforts you are making.
My question is, what is your opinion about new Honda Passport 2021? my wife would like to buy one eventho honda has bad transmissions, what is your advice?
Honda uses ZF transmissions in the Passport. ZF makes decent transmissions for the most part. Yes, they did have some trouble with the 9speed. But that was years ago. If ZF lives up to its reputation, it fixed its flaws, and the current crop of ZF transmission should hold up well.
A reputation for what? They have one or two transmission designs on transmissions built for BMW products.
but the rest are nightmares. Ask Ford and Fiat owners what they think about their ZF trannies.
Are those the 9 speed with the problems with Ford, Fiat, (and Honda)?
The 9 speed ZFs were installed as far as I remember on many Honda models, Fiat SUVs, the Jeep renegade, Chrysler 200 (basically Honda + the worst cars built)
The worst part is the, the Acura TLX got either the 9 speed or a weird torque converted dual clutch.
(A transmission that has the disadvantages of a conventional automatic without any of the benefits, and all of the disadvantages of a DCT without any of the advantages - it’s sad they just haven’t just got a wet clutch DCT form getrag or an AT from Aisin like their competition)
Nope - the ZF 9 speed is absolute crap.
That $40k car has a transmission that was considered too bad even for a sub-$20k fiat.
She should put aside $3.5k to pay some lucky transmission guy to replace that Fiat designed unit in 90k-120k miles.
I'd avoid that like wildfire, they drive like literal crap and will cost thousands to keep going.
It’s Fiat designed?! Not a true ZF?
