Scotty mentioned that you have to adjust the valves on Hondas some times, do you think they’ll move away from it?

Honda is somewhat conservative, not like Toyota though. I don't think they change it.

Another question: how can you tell if a Honda needs its valves adjusted?

Check your maintenance schedule. It will specify mileage between adjustments, or, in the case of hydraulic lifters, no adjustment is usually required unless they're being replaced.

rich or lean mixtures and check engine light

You will get less power and lower mpg.

When they start getting bad you can hear the increased ticking sound.
