What is your opinion of the Honda Passport and its 9 speed transmission? Consumer Reports recommends to buy instead the Ford Edge due to much better "predicted reliability".

I must say, I incidentally rented an Edge.  Never driven a Passport. I’ve driven a Pilot which is similar.

I quite enjoyed the Edge. It had some pep. It felt luxurious for its class. I had a love hate with the touchscreen.

Although I have never driven a Passport, I trust Honda’s quality a little more. And I’m not to concerned with the engine because it’s based on the Pilot and MDX platforms. So it is quite well tested despite being new. With that said not too sure about the transmission either way.

The only thing that BUGGED me BIG TIME about the Edge was the chrome by the window and door knob/lever in the exterior. I feel like I am going to cut my fingers every time I close the door. The fit and finish for that piece is horrible and potentially dangerous. Also not to big a fan of Ecoboost/Turbo.

What is predicted reliability?

Predicted reliability is like a fart in the wind based on what you just ate.

I owned a 2019 Ford Edge SEL which I bought new.

It was a comfy and spacious little SUV no doubt, and with the EcoBoost it was peppy. BUT....it also got recalled for engine fire risk and at 20k miles I started having all kinds of rattles, pops, and bangs. So I sold it.

I also know another issue people commonly have is the fogging up of the clear tail lights. The seals are terrible and some are fogged new on the dealer lot.

I’m kind of torn on that. The Honda is still more reliable than the Ford, even though it has that 9 speed auto which had problems before. Also, the Edge has those EcoBoost engines which won’t last as long as the V6.

You kinda answered your question yourself, didn't you?
