Honda VTC actuator

Scotty:

Both my wife & I have Honda CRV’s 2012 Touring editions . Both CRV’s have

Engine rattles for 2 seconds on cold startup. Startup when warm has no such rattle. Mine has 175000 kms and has done it for the 30,000 kms that I’ve owned it. Wife’s CRV has been doing it for the 200,000 kms that she’s driven it mostly highway kms. Beyond all of that both cars are extremely dependable as you’ve said over and over again. I’m not worried about the sound  except that I want to sell mine privately and get either a RAV4 hybrid or a  HondaClarity plug in version .

I had the VTC solenoid replaced but the noise is still there just not as loud as the wife’s CRV . So the solution was a partial solution which meant that I did not do hers.

If I can sell mine, I believe that I have to reveal this Honda skull in the closet.

Is this really something to worry about ? Should I not worry about the long term effects of this?

The Honda TSB is 009-010 concerns the VTC Actuator.

Thanks

Well I wouldn't worry about it as long as it's okay once it warms up people drive them many years that way as engines age the modern ones with all that VTC crap tend to be noisy

Well, … you had a VTC solenoid changed, … but did they clean a strainer, checked for clogging? They usually forgo this important step and change of VTC solenoid change is not much change. Oil flow to actuator is still restricted and rattle still there. Ask those who did the work, … did they checked oil passages to the VTC actuator as well?
