How do I connect new battery cables?

I have a 2004 Lexus ES330 with no battery cables.  I cannot find clear instructions on how to connect new cables.  I have a couple of ground wires still attached, and a thick cable coming out of the fuse box with a ring terminal at the end.  Can you please tell me what to hook up the new cables to?  I have tried the repair manual and also Alldata but there is no clear direction as to this, everything seems to assume you have the old ones attached and just have to duplicate that, but I don't have that!  HELP!

Generally the large cable coming out of the fuse box is connected to the positive terminal of the battery.  The other thick cable and the grounds you mentioned run from a metal contact source (usually on the fender) to the negative terminal of the battery.

Battery positive should be connected to:

  • the main fuse box
  • the starter (should be fused)
  • the alternator (should be fused)

battery negative should be connected to:

  • the body/frame
  • the engine block

Thank you so much, I did not see your answer at the time and apologize for that!  Much appreciated.
