2007 Subaru Forester automatic $5,000 83,000 miles one owner older lady car bought brand new well taken care of. however check engine light came on she brought it to Subaru and they smoke tested it. It has 2 leaks. Roll over valves and seams of the gas tank.
2006 RAV4 134,000 miles $2,300 rough shape with the oil burning 2.4 but engine was recently replaced with a new one but needs a catalytic converter and a transmission sensor.
2011 Chrysler Town and Country $5,200 102,000 miles which I know are the worst manufacturer but out of these 3 this ones in the best shape it needs nothing and has a clean title.
I would pick the RAV4 with the new engine if it didn’t need all that other stuff done.
Which would you choose?
None of them are really great choices. The Subaru is low mileage and appears to have few immediate problems but it's going to blow head gaskets soon if they're original ($$$). You didn't say what kind of transmission but the automatics on those are weak.
Normally the RAV4 would be a good choice but that one seems to have too many problems, and the "new" engine could be anything from a junkyard motor to a factory rebuilt, and you don't know how good a job was done installing it. Then there's the cat and trans sensor (is that really all that's wrong with the trans?).
The Chrysler T&C is just junk and is at the point those typically fall apart, just don't go there.
So my vote would be for "None of the above."
I'd keep looking. Sounds like three projects to me.
I still drive my town and country with no issues. The engine and transmission in that car is not the worst. This link show a RAM promaster van with the exact engine and transmission used in the town and country you mentioned. It has lasted over 600,000 miles. If that's not reliable then I don't know what is. Plus I've seen a couple of caravans with over 250k+ miles in my area.
That’s remarkable. I knew 2 older people about 15 years ago with 2 older Grand Voyagers with the 3.3 that went 300,000 miles a 90 and a 91.
A huge problem with Chrysler products as they age is the electronics. If you get lucky and electronic modules and wiring hold up, if you have a model with good engine and trans those can certainly run a long time. But statistically Chryslers have experienced more than their fair share of failures.
NONE OF THE ABOVE.
I’d go RAV4 if the engine is new.
Yep I agree with all of you too I’m still looking like I have been
Tghe Subie and the RAV sound like they have had "casual" maintanence. PASS on all
