Hei, Scotty. I have a BMW E38 730iL 1995, with V8, engine code M60B30, auto trans and has 133.000 km on its odometer. I checked everything twice last week, both in the authorized dealership and independent workshop, as the result came up it has no error codes, not a single one. When I first buy the car, I changed a bunch of wear out parts with new aftermarket parts coz the previous owner did very little maintenance of it. The list of parts I changed for the last 2 years are below : (so far now is my 2nd year of ownership)
- Alternator
- Oil filter
- air filter
- gasoline filter
- new oil and fluid change regularly (engine, trans, power steering & diff.)
- electric fan for AC unit (just the motor)
- viscous fan
- drive and ac belt
- flushed the freon (AC)
- complete rebuild of suspension system (front and rear)
- new windshield wiper
- all 4 gear window regulator
- new radiator (BEHR)
- shock strut for the trunk and hood
- new 8 spark plugs
- new censor TD (camshaft)
- engine gasket seal
- oil sump seal
- all new power steering hoses
- Beside all of that, everything still works fine for the past 2 years and soon I will have to change the brake pads.
All these maintenances just cost me around USD 1800 with labour bills and the car worth USD 5000 back in 2019. Normally people sells this car in around USD 7000 or up, but there is no guarantee if the car has maintenance record as mine. Surely the price I tell you is valid in my country, Indonesia.
My question is, do you think the car worth for long run, let say 3-5 years more? Or I should think to put it on sale soon? I just think that everything is ok now, but dunno if there will be unexpected massive damages such as broken wiring, broken censors etc. or this car can last forever?
Thank you, Scotty
It's too old. Sell it.
Before anything else goes wrong, I would sell it now. Since all those items were replaced, that may help the next owner feel a little more at ease with the purchase (relatively speaking).
sell it now
