I went to Jiffy Lube in order to get a state inspection and thought there's no way they can mess anything up during a state inspection, I was wrong. The idiot who got in my car turned the key in the ignition when the car was already on and there was a grinding noise for about half a second. This is the only time it's ever happened in the vehicle. I started it up after and everything seems fine but I'm not sure. Is there anything I should look out for to know if there's damage to the starter or flywheel?
If there was any damage you'll get occasions when the starter won't engage. However, I wouldn't worry about it from the one incident. Stay away from quick lube joints and chain shops in the future.
Thanks for the quick reply and reassurance, I thought a harmless state inspection in and out would be fine but I was wrong. No more chain shops ever in the future for anything. Thanks again!
Have to admit I’ve done that a few times in the past, when in a hurry, and then getting a chill down my spine when I hear that horrible noise.
As long as it’s not a regular occurrence, no major harm should’ve been done.
+1 to Honda for their superb NVH levels in the R20 and -1 to the numbskull who cranked a running engine..
Thanks for the reassurance! Yeah, I understand mistakes happen and I'm just glad no major harm should've been done. I wish I could do my own state inspections.
You could move to a state which doesn’t require them or start your own business..
