How often does a steering angle sensor on a Toyota go bad?

I have a 2010 Rav4 with 80K miles. In the past 6 months i've been getting intermittent warning lights for  ABS, AWD, VSC that go on for a few days and then go away again. My scanner shows code U0073 ControlModule Communication Bus Off and U0126 Lost Communication with Steering Angle Sensor Module. And most recently the code P1578 shows up Brake System. I also noticed that the Maintenance Required go on briefly when starting my car. It's not my daily car and i drive it about once a week.

I thought that that these Steering Angle Sensor usually last the life of the car? Does it need to be replaced  right away? I was thinking of buying a used one part 89245-0R020 but i read that it may require using OBD tool that supports calibration.

Or could it be triggered by something else such a brake sensor?

well your scanner didn't say the sensor doesn't work. It said it lost communication with it. That could mean it came unplugged, or water got in the connector, or the wire got nicked etc etc.

Do proper troubleshooting first.
