2001 Maxima 3000 V6 engine 264,000 miles change the oil every 3000 miles with Pennzoil synthetic oil. I go to check oil after lets say a trip to Nashville and back that in the neighborhood of 144 miles and when I pull the dipstick out it shows plenty of oil wipe it off shows nothing put the dipstick back leave it for a hour or over night and shows plenty. What’s happening? It’s a mystery!
Oil is taking some time to drain from the top of the engine into the pan.
After the engine warmed up, park the car on a level surface and turn off the engine. Check the oil level after 10 min.
I do wait all night now. When I pull out the dipstick after it sitting for hours or all night it first of coarse has oil on the dipstick wipe it off to get a accurate reading nothing on the dipstick. Stick it back pull out nothing on the dipstick. The car is cold hasn’t been ran sat all night. Then come back there’s oil on the dipstick but shows over full.
can you show a video of you checking the oil level , 15 minutes after shutting off the engine?
He changed the oil in the car and it fixed the problem. It’s still a mystery.
The car had sat all night pulled out dipstick showed over full wiped it off put it back in pulled it out showed nothing. Then stuck it back in.
After waiting it shows over full.
The car is absolutely sitting level. He parks it in the exact same spot everyday to check the oil.
