I never owned a vehicle with cabin filters until I bought a 2014 Xterra. It's not a critical item. I change mine (my Xterra has 2) every summer regardless of condition. My 2002 Mustang doesn't have any.

Before it smells like a swamp in the cabin. Kinda wishing mine had one as no matter how much I clean the vents/ducts, old grass clippings & dirt fly in my face when I turn on the hvac.
It's like walking by someone with a leafblower who nukes you with their driveway mess.

Last time I read the box it said 15K but I don't pay attention to the miles and just change it every year.
