How soon should I change my oil?

I just got a brand new 2021 Toyota Rav4 Limited Hybrid AWD. I've put 1,700 miles on it.  I have Toyotacare where they'll do the 1st 4 oil changes and tire rotations.  Can I bring it into Toyota at 5k miles and ask them to do the 10k service at 5k?  I live in Southwest Florida, and it doesn't get cold here at all.  My driving is 95% on city streets. Summers get dang hot, tho.

Toyota won't do it.  Find an independent mechanic and change to oil, filter and pcv valve at no more than 5,000 miles.  Then, take it to the dealer at 10,000 miles, then the mechanic at 15,000 miles and so on.

You can try but if 10K intervals are specified the dealer will probably refuse to do it at 5K. Assuming that turns out to be the case you have the option of doing the oil change yourself or taking it to an independent shop. (Avoid quick lube joints and chain shops.)

1 year/5k miles. Whichever comes first.

I don't know. Did you ask them?

If not then do it yourself or go to an indie shop.

If you want your car to last, if you want higher resale value, if you want to avoid a lot of high-mileage repairs...

CHANGE AT 5,000 miles NO MATTER WHAT.  First oil changes quickly (like 1,000 miles) not a bad idea. Like Scotty Kilmer says, OIL IS CHEAP!

10 quarts of full synth oil at Costco, $30 (regular price), $4 filter at parts.toyota.com.

Note your DIY oil changes and all service at https://www.toyota.com/owners

10k oil changes are an idea of government bureaucrats to save the environment from petroleum use.  More junked cars that waste fuel on the roads exist...  Unintended consequences, you think???

Research your model with "A Car Care Nut" on YouTube.  He's a Master Diagnostic Technician at an Illinois dealership.

Ok thanks for the input, the truck only has 800 miles on it and I purchased it with only 16 miles on the odometer. Ill change it every 5000 miles for sure but as far a new vehicle break in period maybe changing at 1000 miles isn't a bad idea to start off

I recently bought a 2021 Toyota Tacoma 2.7 4 cylinder with 4x4 and the dealership told me it comes with 2 years of oil changes and tire rotations, however the dealer said I only need an oil change every 10,000 miles and if I decide to do it sooner at 5,000 miles I have to pay for it our of pocket. Is it worth paying to change it every 5,000 or am I wasting my money? The free service is only for 25,000 miles so its only 2 free oil changes and 5 tire rotations if I go by what the dealer recommends but 10,000 miles between changes seems to much.

please try using the search box. This question has been answered before. Thanks.

5000 miles, max.  Oil, filter and pcv valve.
