How to shop used toyota trucks

Topic starter

I really need a reliable truck for my work, and I'm limited to a max budget of $5k.

How should I navigate shopping for a used Toyota Tundra in that price range?

For example, is over 300k miles worth considering due to my limited budget?

You'll be hard pressed to find a Toyota of any kind, let alone a truck, at that price point.

Only if you're able to do your own repair work. Depending on how it's been maintained even a Toyota truck could be at or near the end of its useful life at that mileage.

I've seen a few lower mileage mid 2000s tundra that look clean under $5k, but they get snapped up by the time I can even message the guy lol. I saw one for sale, a 2006 Tundra full cab 6ft bed with 174k miles asking $4500, it was sold less than an hour that it was posted. It's a struggle lol.

I can do some basic and medium maintenance myself, but I'm no pro lol

Do you have any other year and makes that would be reliable for a few years until I can afford a higher budget to work with?

Older Nissan Frontier and Ford Ranger pickups have been recommended by Scotty and others here at various times. However at the kind of price you're looking at anything is going to be old and high mileage and is likely to need some repairs even if basically sound. Be sure to have a good mechanic inspect any vehicle before purchase.
