fuse link in line to alternator popped. replaced fuse link but fuse popped again not due to corrosion. car has sat for 3+ years and may have an internal short in alternator. happens when battery gets connected. how do i test this?

disconnect the alternator and then connect the battery.
Or measure the resistance between positive and negative on the alternator.
