Hello everyone, I took my 2002 4runner sr5 V6 with 215K miles to get the coolant hoses and drive belts replaced because both the hoses and belts were a little cracked and very old. When I arrived at the shop to pick it up I noticed the car was leaking some kind of fluid a lot. The guy working there told me they found that I had a leaky radiator and that they pressure tested it as well because I believe my dad asked them to when he was there dropping it off. I asked why it was leaking like that and either the guy didn't hear me or didn't want to answer. Anyway I drove home, parked, and sat in the car listening because I noticed that whenever I'd hit the throttle there was a consistent whirring sound almost supercharger esque but not as high pitched. So I sat there for a bit revving it listening to the sound before just saying whatever and going inside, but when I stepped out I noticed a massive puddle of liquid from my car. There was also a very consistent drip from under the vehicle like a leaky faucet. I saw it had a slight red tinge to it so I determined it was coolant. The leak seemed to be coming from the front left of the car, when looking at it from the front. Not quite under where the radiator is but inline with where the tire is just coming from under the engine. The leak did not stop for several hours. It stayed dripping at the same rate and there was an absurd amount of coolant under the vehicle 3 hours after it had sat parked. I am really quite pissed off because my vehicle came out in worse condition than it went in, what should I do. They said that they needed to replace the radiator. Note that both of these symptoms, the enormous coolant leak and that odd whirring sound, occurred immediately after they serviced it. You'd think I know if I had a leaky radiator because I've been driving it for months and the temp gauge never went above half. My dad says the pressure test may have exacerbated the leak which is what I assume they told him but if it exacerbated it then there had to have been one to begin with, and like I said I never noticed any kind of puddle on the ground or the car overheating.
Take the car back to the shop and have the repair it. You should not have taken back the car when you saw the leak.
Since the cooling system stays under pressure for a while, I would suspect the water pump or radiator has taken a dump.
