I was thinking about getting a 6th gen Mustang (maybe 5th gen if the 6th gens dont depreciate that much when im ready to buy in a few). Probably a convertible, and definitely a pony car. I dont need the extra power personally. Im just in it for the fun ride. Which year/years would you say are the best bet? Thanks!
If you get one, go pre-2018, and get the 3.7L V6. It's fast enough, and is not turbocharged or run by GDI. It's naturally aspirated with ordinary fuel injection. The EcoBoost engines are finicky and wear out quickly if abused. she doesn't drive like a lunatic, so her engine may last a little while longer than most. My girlfriend's CEL in her 2017 EcoBoost comes on constantly for stupid crap and then goes off. For some reason, Ford put electronically actuated slats behind the grille to save gas and make the car warm up quicker by shutting them when it's cold. The stupid thing trips the check engine light if they don't work. Which seems to be happening a lot lately. There's no way that saves enough gas to make any difference in emissions.
My 2017 V6 doesnt have that stupid slat system and has been good so far. Both of us bought our cars brand new. Avoid basically all 2018 and newer cars. They have garbage GM/Ford jointly designed 10-Speed automatic transmissions, and the standards are cheap, Made in China units. I believe they started using that model of standard transmission in 2018 as well, but I'm not positive. The 2015-2017 transmission is a Ford licensed copy of a six-speed ZF transmission. It's a slightly better designed transmission.
