Hey Scotty,
I have a 2002 Mustang GT with only 19,000 miles on it. I grew up in the early late 80’s-early 90’s. You may remember that the fox body Mustang’s were one of the big cars to have. Everyone was swapping out their stock exhaust (me included). I’m much older now so care more about the impact of my actions so would like to know your thoughts on swapping out my standard exhaust for a cat back from one of the popular brands?
I have a mechanic that I use and he doesn’t seem to see anything wrong with it but I’ve come to really respect your opinion on all things automotive.
Thanks.
Well it depends on two main things. If it's a quality system, you wouldn't have any problems with it. But it also depends on where you live. For example, when I'm in Tennessee the law is there. Don't check anything, they don't expect anything and you can do whatever you want. But if you live in an area where they do yearly emissions inspections, sometimes that will cause your car to fail the emissions inspection because of the effect it can have on the flow of the exhaust and the readings that come from the computer sensors which could trip a check engine light
