Hyundai Accent 2012 Front End Noise

Scotty,

I have the following:

Hyundai Accent 2012 GLS

6-Speed Manual - 1.8L

100K+ Miles

Replaced Transmission, Clutch and Flywheel 1 year ago.

It drives great, shifts great, idles great, no codes.

It has a loud almost grinding noise coming from the front end.  Only happens when moving and gets louder the faster you go.  Same sound in neutral, with the clutch in or out.  I can't pinpoint the location - even put on jack stands and put in gear to spin the wheels.

Thought it might be wheel bearings but no play (side to side or up/down) in wheels and don't hear anything if I spin them by hand.

Been a great little car otherwise and need to keep it around a while.

Thanks,

Mike

Did you hit something relatively recently that was in the road? I hit a raised manhole in my 2013 Fusion once, had low profile tires, and about two weeks later I was driving 5.5 hours on the highway and started hearing the buzz/ grind. It didnt do anything when I had the car on a stand.

Wheel bearings don't always make noise when you spin them by hand, and in the beginning of them wearing out / being slightly damaged, they don't always show slop. The weight of the car on the wheels as it rolls and the forces on the suspension as it articulates way outdoes any force you can get by spinning and muscling it. Get one of those noise finders Scotty has and try to track it down that way 🙂

Thanks for the info. I was thinking the same thing with the weight of the car on the wheels but it makes the same sound when I have it on jacks and run the car. Oddly enough I can't really hear it outside the car, it is quite loud when in the car. Anyway, will try to find some Chassis Ears of some sort...can't seem to find the deal Scotty found.
