I brought a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee limited just last week with a bonded title for $1,350. Thing is, he didn't sign the bill of sale. I'm 17 and because this was my first car with my own hard-earned money I was elated and didn't stop to think. I want to know if this will interfere with transferring the title to my name and getting it registered.
Seems to me it should not be to much trouble to find the previous owner and have him sign it. Better safe than sorry.
depends on the state i guess
in my state, our DMV requires a notarized bill of sale for an out of state purchase
in state purchase, just the title is required
If no notary is required I am aware of situations where people have traced a signature onto the correct document, when no previous owner is available.
Depending on your state you may be able to use the pandemic as an excuse for why it's not signed, too.
The answer lies in checking with your state's DMV, anonymously, or with other people who have registered cars enough to know how your state works. No two are exactly alike.
