I have a 2020 Subaru Impreza Hatchback. When I start the car it jumps to 2 rpm with the temperature icon showing on the dashboard for about 10 minutes whether it is idling or I am driving the car. I was told that is not normal that when starting a vehicle in idle it should be 0 rpm to .50 rpm. What could be my car's problem?

I've never heard of an engine that would run at 2 rpm.

I was told that is not normal that when starting a vehicle in idle it should be 0 rpm to .50 rpm.

Who told you this? 0 rpm means the engine is not running at all, and no engine is going to run at .50 rpm.

He may be referring to the RPM gauge and not knowing it's actually running at like 800 RPMs, in otherwords, not fully reading the gauge. My truck has in parentheses x1000. It would definitely stall if it were running at 2 rpm. The starter spins much faster than that.

But idling at as little as 0 rpm? Something is off here.

Maybe start by hooking up a scanner, any cheap one will do, and seeing what the ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature) sensor is reporting in Live Data at a cold start
