I have been following your advice for about 3 years. I have a 2017 Ford Escape with 60, 000 miles, AWD and drive 3000 miles a year. You had indicated that since there is low mileage I can chance the oil once a year. My oil change light went on at 3000 miles and is the recommended mileage per the owner's manual. Will there be a future problem if I continue with the one year schedule?

Your owner's manual available online at Ford actually indicates the oil change light should turn on at 7500-10000 miles in "normal service" (way too long) or 5000-7500 miles in "severe service" (more reasonable, 5000 miles preferred.) If you're putting 3000 miles per year on that vehicle changing oil once a year is fine. (Oil change issues are covered in detail in the site FAQ.)

I've been doing that for about 10 years on my Toyota, around 5K miles per year, once a year oil change. No problems at all.
One thing I do is use Top-Tier gas and before oil change run a bottle of Techron through the system. Also, if driving only short distances, try to take it on highway once in a while to do Italian tune-up.

That won't be a problem at all. Now. If you were to drive a lot more miles then you would have to change it every 5k miles (don't fall for the 10k mile oil change intervals especially on a turbo car) or 6 months. But in your case since you don't drive a lot 3k miles is fine.
