I looked at a 2012 GMC Sierra with a 5.3 liter Eco boost engine. I checked the engine oil and the oil stick smelled of gas. I asked when the last oil changed had been done. It had been done just two weeks ago. The oil was not like water but the smell was there. The engine had a tapping noise cold but but not for long. Ran smooth not rough and had lots of power hot.. Should I stay clear of the truck?
Mileage? Also, you mean the 5.3L V8 (Vortec 5300). Ecoboost is Ford.

bring a scan tool or mechanic with you. See if it's running rich. If you can, do a compression test. If you're too lazy, then just walk away from this one.
